About Cygnet Salon

Cygnet Productions, launched in 1992, has developed and produced fully staged plays and staged readings adapted from diverse forms of literature including books, letters, short stories and epic poems. Early on, the company was dubbed Portland’s “literary cabaret.” The Cygnet Salon is the sister production company, focused exclusively on small-audience staged readings. The Salon produces one reading each month at 21ten, usually on a Monday evening.

All tickets are non-refundable and there is no late seating. Please contact Louanne Moldovan, Artistic Director, at 503-702-4455 with any box office questions.

Louanne Moldovan

Director / Producer / Artistic Director
Louanne Moldovan is passionate about literature and theatre. She’s an actor, playwright, dramaturg, director and producer, and a community builder. In Los Angeles, Louanne worked for 20th Century Fox Films, was an acting member of the Company of Angels Theater, and writer and co-leader with the Women's Writing Project at the Los Angeles Theatre Center. She served as an artistic supervisor of the Imagination Workshop, a group of performers working with psychiatric patients to facilitate creative experiences.

In 1992, soon after she moved to Portland, Louanne and Nyla McCarthy co-founded Cygnet Productions,
the “literary cabaret” of Portland, Oregon, with performances in David Morrison’s rare book shop. Cygnet’s mission from the beginning has been to produce entertaining, stimulating works of literature with social consciousness; the critically acclaimed company presents dramatic adaptations of literary works as well as producing plays written for the stage. During the pandemic, Louanne launched The Actor’s Nightmare, a weekly podcast featuring true horror stories from the stage, told by the actors who lived through them. She also produced and directed Cygnet Radio Hour, dramatic readings that streamed on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and other streaming services. In 2024, Louanne introduced the Cygnet Salon, a facet of Cygnet Productions that’s dedicated to monthly staged readings by some of Portland’s most beloved actors.

In addition to serving as Cygnet’s Artistic Director, Louanne has directed for companies including the
Civic Theatre Guild and Artists Repertory Theatre. She also directed talent on-set for TV commercials
and films. She is the winner of a 2004 Oregon Book Award for Drama, as coauthor of Vitriol & Violets:
Tales from the Algonquin Round Table.

For Louanne, theatre is the capricious, beloved stepsister to her divine daughter, Alex.

21ten Sunday Reading Series

Sunday Reading Series

Previously, 21ten Theatre has presented a reading of a new play by an Oregon-based playwright once a month. Minimally rehearsed and volunteer operated, the readings are a chance for playwrights to hear their work brought to life, for actors to get to practice their craft in a low commitment, fun setting, and for the community at large to experience an exciting new story.

Readings are on hold for now, but we hope to resume this year.
